Do Coffee Makers And Hot Chocolate Mix?

29 June 2009 in Coffee maker

I was just curious if a standard coffee maker (you know, the things that mix the grounded coffee beans and water to make coffee in a pot.) will work with hot chocolate powder the same way?

  1. You should not make your chocolate in the basket, but brew up a pot of hot water only, then scoop into your cup the correct amount of choco mix, then add the hot water to cup. Keep the hot water on hand for the next cup if you are a cup after cup drinker. However, I just add the chocolate mix to a cup of hot coffee!
If you were to leave a pot of chocolate on for a while, it will become off, and have a skin, yuck, then become soured if unintentionally left until later. Milk does not like to be continually heated, the proteins, you know..

  5. Use the coffee maker to heat the water is fine…. UNTIL you use it to make coffee! After that, anytime you use it to heat water, it’ll pick up a little of the coffee taste and your chocolate will taste funny.

  11. You can use the coffee maker to heat the water, but don’t add chocolate powder. Add the powder in a cup, add hot water and enjoy.
If you add the chocolate powder in the pot, it’ll just clog the filter, burn, and stick to it. When you make coffee, you want to extract flavor from the beans without getting the grounds in your cup. With chocolate, you actually want the powder in your cup because the cocoa butter adds creaminess.

  13. Like many of the previous people said, don’t put the chocolate powder.
It is going to leave a funny taste to your coffee the next few times that you want coffee. Also, wet chocolate is much harder to clean than coffee grinds.
Just brew up the water, and then add the powder in your cup.

  15. I used to use my coffee maker to make hot water for tea and hot chocolate all the time when I didn’t have a working stove. You just leave out the coffee filter and fill as usual, instead of getting coffee in the pot you’ll have just plain hot water. Then you can mix that hot water with your powder mix. Its also a good idea to run plain water or water with a little vinegar every so often to clean your coffee pot. hope that helps :)

  19. it would probably work but there is really no point hot chocolate powder dissolves it does not need to brew like coffee therefore you would have the same hot chocolate as you would making it the regular way but with a sticky mess to clean out of your coffee pot if its all you have to make the hot chocolate i recommend just running water through the coffee pot to heat it up and then making the hot chocolate the regular way.
