turkish coffee–one heaping tsp of ground beans (i suggest you grind the beans at home in a grinder unless you want to do it by hand, in which case you will need to use a mortar and pestle) per cup of water, plus one additional tsp of grounds. add the grounds to your pot, pour the water over, then pour in additional water (like if you’re making 5 cups of coffee, use one additional cup) to make up for that which the grounds will absorb. i’m assuming you’ll have a grill over your fire, if not, stack some rocks among the coals to support the pot so that you won’t have to hold the pot the whole time. bring the water Just to a boil–don’t let it boil for more than a moment or it’ll get bitter.
remove from heat as soon as it begins to boil. at this point, you can pour it through a filter or you can just wait for the grounds to settle to the bottom and pour the coffee off the top. coffee made this way tends to be pretty strong, so you might want to experiment at home so that you can adjust the water/grounds ratio to what you’re used to.
a simpler alternative would be to get a french press. if you have one of those, all you need is to boil the water and pour it over the grounds in the decanter.
hope this helps
p.s., it doesn’t matter what sort of beans you use, just that they be ground up. bean choice is a matter of preference. most people like french roast.
Don’t use whole beans. Grind them at your local market or at home. Or even use just Folders or what ever your normal coffee is.
Use a camp coffee pot and fill with water about 2-3 in from the top.
Bring to a boil over hot coals or flames and add 1/2 small styrofoam coffee cup (about 1/3 – 1/2 cup). It will most likely boil over a little bit.
Bring back to a boil and then remove from the heat. Add 1 full styrofoam cup of ice or cold water. This will settle the grounds.
No matter what your camp coffee/cowboy coffee will be chunky, it’s just the way it is. Straining it will make you into a city sissy.
here you go basic camp coffee
Camp coffee
1 gallon water
½ cup coarsely ground coffee grounds
Boil the water in a Dutch oven. Remove from heat and let sit for about 3 minutes. Add coffee grounds and cover, let “steep” 5 minutes. Tap on the side of the Dutch oven or add ½ cup cold water to drop the grounds to the bottom. Serve with any of your favorite coffee additions. It is served best black. Serves 8 to 14
with great difficulty.
but if you want to impress, learn how to cook basic stuff.
andif you REALLY need to make coffee
you won’t be able to with the beans.
sorry
