How Long Does Packaged Coffee (the Kind Used In Coffee Stores) Last?

3 July 2009 in Coffee maker

I have inherited the responsibility of running a fundraising booth for my Highschool’s music program, which sells coffee, pastries, and other cafe drinks and foods during our annual town fair. We have quite a bit of coffee (packaged and boxed) that has been kept cool since last year’s fair. Is it likely spoiled? Still decent to use?
Regardless, I have ordered all new coffee, just wondering if we should throw out what we have left, as it is.

  3. there is nothing wrong with and a little aging helps coffee..just like a good wine…just as long as it is still vacuum sealed..

  5. it depends on the package. plastic,Mylar, cans, kept out of the sun and cool..can last up to 2 yrs. the thief of good coffee is air and heat and light. also depends on what type of coffee it was…the brand. cheap or common brands tend to mix their coffee when grinding with rice, beans or corn and this is an extender and allows them to make more money by using less coffee…these brands tend to expire quickly. open one if it smells good it is good…even if it didn’t smell so good..coffee isn’t one of those things that will expire in the way that it is bad for you to drink it…it just doesn’t taste as good any more. try mixing bag to bag one new and one old for your booth…most people will never know like i said it is all in the taste.

  7. I think the answer will be in the taste!!! Make yourself a cuppa and see. If it has been kept in a cool place and there is no risk of contamination with packages being opened and not sealed properly, everything should be fine…..you may be able to contact the manufacturer to explain the expiry date code as well just to make sure……but if you are thinking of throwing it out, perhaps there is a charity or someone who would be glad of the gift. Hope the fair goes well for you.
