Why Do I Get Headaches After Drinking Coffee?
22 June 2009 in Coffee makerThis morning i had a very small cup of iced coffee. I notice about 15mins after drinking it, I developed a headache. The headache lasted for a few hours. I don’t have coffee often, but this seems to happen everytime I drink it.
And also, can coffee make you sleepy intstead of alert?

Sounds like you have a sensitivity to caffeine. Do you have the same reaction when you eat dark chocolate? That also has caffeine in it.
Caffeine closes down the blood vessels (“vasoconstrictor)
and that can lead to a headache because your brain is “starved” for blood. Makes sense, really.
Try drinking de-caf and see if you get a headache. Some tea has a caffeine-type substance in it, too, so if you do have a sensitivity to caffeine, be aware that just switching to tea (even herbal teas) may not solve your problem. I buy “de-caf” green tea that is quite yummy.
The “high” of caffeine will wear off after a while, maybe 30 minutes or so, and you may feel sleepy as your system
“crashes”.
When my mother worried if coffee in the evening would keep her awake, I would fib and tell her that I had given her de-caf and she’d drop off to sleep! Of course, we also had a “magic sofa” that would put anyone who sat on it to sleep and that’s where Mom would have her cup of coffee. Amazing how the power of suggestion works.
Hope this helps.
Try drinking Chock full o’Nuts!
Chock full o’Nuts is that heavenly coffee,
Better coffee a millionaire’s money can’t buy.
maybe it was a ice headache
coffee has caffeine and your body doesn’t like it. they say drinking coffee w/caffeine keeps you awake but i don’t have trouble sleeping. if you want to drink coffee, get decaffinated. try that and see if you get headaches. good luck.
Could be caffeine sensitivity.
